Australian Catholic University

Australian Catholic University, or as it is informally known ACU National, is the only public Catholic university in Australia. ACU National was founded in 1991 through the amalgamation of four higher education Catholic Institutes in Queensland and New South Wales.

ACU National has a student body of over 19,900 students, who are supported by 1200 staff. The university has six campuses in three states and the Australian Capital Territory. The majority of the student body is female, with females comprising 69.8% of the student population. ACU National has more than 1,600 international students, and 270 indigenous students.

Although ACU National is a Catholic University, it is open to all students and staff regardless of religious belief. The university is affiliated with the International Federation of Catholic Universities, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Australian Catholic University has plays an important role in educating Australia’s teachers and nurses.
